About Us
St. Joseph’s Workshop is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo and approved by Government as an initiative aimed at empowering and creating employment for poor youths from rural communities. It is also without bias to religion, creed, ethnicity or race. Since its establishment until present, the workshop has been training youths free of charge. It was approved for operation by the then Western State Ministry of Economic planning and Reconstruction (Social Development Division) in 1974.
Our mission is to empower youths through skill acquisition in furniture, carpentry, traditional carving and give them requisite human qualities in order to give them the opportunity to actualize their potentials and live a decent life.
Since its establishment, St Joseph’s Workshop has graduated more than 250 youths with standard skills in wood carving, church furniture, home furniture, ceiling work, roofing work with ability to use modern machines for enhanced quality products.
This was made possible through the skills the missionaries brought from Europe.
For decades, products of St Joseph have been regarded foremost in local furniture and carpentry all over the country. Thus it has supported nearly 500 households to overcome potential poverty.
Our training programme has been funded through the local support of the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo and the income generated from sales of its products.
Our goal is to eradication of poverty in the rural communities in Osun state and beyond.
